Sea Cow or Dugong in Cagdianao

MIO Office – February 23, 2017 @Poblacion, Cagdianao , Dinagat Islands.

The joint investigating team composed of the following Personnel from different offices to mention LGU Cagdianao , Dinagat Islands led by Hon.Mayor Adolfo E. Longos represented by Mr. Teodoro L. Alipayo Exec. Asst. II/ MIO Des., Mr. Bonifacio Jazon – MPDC/ MENRO Des., PSINSP Pacifico G. Gerong- Chief of Police, Mrs. Sufenia B. Chua- Mun. Aqua Culturist , Provincial Information Office represented by Mr. Jimmy Hara – Anchorman of PDI TV Patrol, PENRO Office led by Mr. Zacarias Valez- PENRO Officer , DILG – PDI led by Mr. Domingo Bulabog – Provincial Director, Iglesia Ni Kristo TV, BFAR Office led by Ms. Joy Estrada- Technical Staff conducted ocular examination of a sea creature’s carcass found washed up ashore at Kantigdaun, Brgy. Poblacion, Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands.

Report yesterday said that the dead body of sea creature was believed to be a Sea Cow or Dugong but the team’s Sea Cow or Dugongfinding is unanimous that it is a WHALE or BALYENA in Tagalog dialect and LOMOD in Surigaonon dialect and confirmed also by the BFAR Personnel , but is uncertain as to what particular WHALE specie due to its advance decomposition. In addition, BFAR- PDI send sample of specimen to BFAR Manila for laboratory examination to determine what kind of Whale Specie and the cause of death. The carcass has a total length of 6.3 meters excluding the tail which is missing and a total width of 2 meters from the dorsal to pectoral fin.

LGU Cagdianao under the leadership of Hon.Mayor Adolfo E. Longos with the LGU Province of Dinagat Islands headed by our active Provincial Governor Hon. Glenda B. Ecleo agreed to preserve the bones of the whale as memento of this rare event in our Municipality . (Source: Mio Lungsod Nan Cagdianao)
